10 years of the Graphics Foundation Neo Rauch
NEO RAUCH
THE HOLDINGS
Prints since 1988
Graphics Foundation Neo Rauch
Exhibition opening: Wednesday, June 1st 2022
Exhibition period: June 1st 2022 – April 28th 2024
The Graphics Foundation Neo Rauch was founded by art enthusiasts in Aschersleben. On June 1st 2012, the foundation has presented a selection of graphic works by the painter and printer Neo Rauch working in Leipzig for the first time.
Neo Rauch grew up in Aschersleben and donates one copy of each graphic edition to his hometown.
The foundation was established by the town Aschersleben, Neo Rauch, Gerd Harry Lybke, and Kerstin Wahala.
As a result of the Graphics Foundation Neo Rauch’s founding as a museum, the art of printmaking received a new attention, and in the form of a growing collection, it has increasingly gained of importance to Neo Rauch. In the meantime, the Graphics Foundation became established in the museum landscape of Saxony-Anhalt. In the context of the exhibition presentation, a not yet existing, new and high quality lighting concept was planned and implemented in 2022.
Henceforth, the foundation celebrates its tenth anniversary with a very special exhibition NEO RAUCH THE HOLDINGS Prints since 1988. For the first time, all prints created between 1988 and 2022 by the Leipzig artist are showcased in a comprehensive show. One may see all prints from the foundation archive, previously made acquisitions, loans on the authority of the Deutsche Bank collection as well as so far rarely presented early works.
The exhibition comprises 150 lithographs, etchings and serigraphs that convey the fascinating development of the artist’s picture languages and his use of techniques in the graphic oeuvre. The sheets dated 1988 until 1993 were partly created at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig. Afterwards, exhibition-related works followed such as drafts for poster, illustrations, booklet designs, New Year’s prints as well as portfolio contributions. In particular, the lithographs take a significant position from 2011 on. In this time, the importance of printmaking increasingly gains relevance for the painter. The lithographic limestone becomes his companion as a medium inherently holding the images and drawings to be printed. The three latest works tell their own unique story and came hot off the press from the Leipzig printing studio in 2022.
On occasion of the tenth anniversary, a new catalog about the artist’s graphic oeuvre from 1988 until 2022 is published at the E.A. Seemann publishing house. Along with an updated catalog raisonné, the publication contains texts by Brett Littman and Silvia Käther, as well as an interview with the painter about his early work by Dr. Doris Apell-Kölmel. Moreover, the catalog includes a talk with Wolfgang Büscher about home and roots.
We thank the state Saxony-Anhalt as well as the Lotto-Toto GmbH Sachsen-Anhalt for the support of the new lighting concept project for the maintainance and improvement of the museum sector.
We would like to thank the Ostdeutsche Sparkassenstiftung in collaboration with the Salzlandsparkasse for their support of the jubilee exhibition and the catalog.
The press conference takes place on Wednesday, June 1st 2022, 11 AM at the Graphics Foundation Neo Rauch.
